King Charles dealt major blow as 22 million Britons pledge to skip Coronation - Daily Express Online

King Charles has been dealt a huge blow with millions pledging to skip the Coronation. According to a YouGov survey, 21.8 million may be planning to avoid the festivities on the big day. The survey found 41 percent of the thousands of adults in Britain quizzed about their plans this weekend said they will not be celebrating the Coronation.

Within this group, 36 per cent are tipped to see their family and friends, while 17 percent have said they’re planning to head out shopping instead, and a further 36 percent plan to work or spend time at home performing household chores.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, under 35s are the least likely to celebrate the big day. Out of this group, half say they will give it a miss compared to 35 percent of those over 55.

Daniel Todaro, Managing Director at Gekko, said: "Personal attitudes towards the monarchy are clearly shifting, and people are keen to make use of their spare time to see friends and family, catch up on their spring cleaning, or indulge in some retail therapy. "With nearly four million people planning on hitting the shops, it seems that most consumers will behave as they would on a typical bank holiday. "With that in mind, despite retailers expecting lower-than-average footfall, they may actually see a bump, as many choose to enjoy the King’s Coronation bank holiday weekend their way."
